The Return of a Legend

No, I am not speaking of this blogger returning from a week away in San Diego and Las Vegas – but that of the one and only Al Arbour.

In what has to be one of the classiest things I have seen from any organization, the Islanders have chosen to bring back legendary coach Al Arbour for one night so he can reach 1500 games. The reason? Nolan would pass the 1499 every day and thought it was a shame that Arbour never reached that 1500 mark.

Arbour signed a one day NHL contract yesterday and has been attending practices the past two days – although he has been watching from the stands. He has also been viewing game tape and organizing strategy against a very potent opponent in the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Should the Islanders win tonight, Arbour would also change his win total from 739 to 740 which would also require a new banner to be hoisted!

For full coverage of the events leading up to tonight's game, check out the Islanders Website.

Just found another article, this time from NHL.COM.

I have a bit of running around to do before the game tonight, but check back later for pictures from the game and of the post game banner ceremony.
