You know, I really hate posting rumors sometimes because you never know what’s reality and what is complete hearsay. This rumor is NOT being posted because I read it somewhere else on the internet – but only because of what I heard being reported between periods of tonight’s game on Versus.
I don’t know who was talking – but they claimed that there are three teams seriously interested in the Mark Recchi now that he was placed on waivers by Pittsburgh. Drum roll please…..
In no particular order – the New York Islanders, New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks.
Why the Islanders, who can’t seem to buy a goal as of late, would be interested in a 39 year old veteran who couldn’t find a place on a team with potent offensive capability is beyond me. I don’t feel that Recchi is done in the league, he would most likely benefit in the proper role on the right team – but I don’t think Long Island is the right place for him at this stage of his career.
Who knows what the guys over on Versus were smoking tonight.
You know I have been thinking that what’s the harm in taking on Recchi his salary is something like 1.2-1.5 million we would eat half so estimate 600- 750k. We can keep him for 10-12 games see how he does and then just cut him loose if it doesn’t work out and we eat half of the 600-750k amount. I think bringing him on is not the cure the team needs but maybe the kick in the butt we need to get some of those rubber black things in the back of the net. Just a thought.
