If JT and Okposo continue to click – that line should heat up again. I love how Okposo takes some pressure off Tavares. His game winning goal is what I want to see more of.

Yes, a good victory and now another chance to string a few together and create some positive momentum.

I agree there ought to be a change in management as the current admin has done little to change the fortunes of this team and develop thier players into dominant forces on the ice. I can’t help but wonder if JT91 would be living up to the “NEXT (insert superstar name)” tag if he was being coached elsewhere.

Nonetheless, they continue to look backwards and skid forwards. I can certainly appreciate the history and will enjoy the Ken Morrow induction to the NYI Hall of Fame tomorrow (BTW it’s on MSG Network and not MSG+). Perhaps it might even inspire the players to win two in a row.

How about a change at the top 2 positions under the owner? Lets get an experienced GM and an NHL experienced coach. Its time to stop promoting from within. Lets bring in some outside help to change this culture. Every year we hope to be good enough to just to squeak into the playoffs and it does not happen. As a huge(ahem) hockey fan its tough to waste money to see these guys play because i have no confidence on any given night they will win.

With that said they are playing a decent game tonight. Need to show me more heart though.

I commend you on taking the high road here when many fans wouldn’t. Sure, things are tough right now, but not every little thing the team does should be bashed. I think they’ve been doing a great job with the 40th Anniversary.

It’s just a shame I’ve missed a bunch of the stuff this year.

Well, the sweater may not be pretty, but the NYI are doing something right honoring teams of the decades. It was a bit odd seeing Ed Westfall wearing it, but nonetheless, I’m looking forward to Saturday night when they honor WESTFALL and the 70′s team. The first captain truly deserves it and was a gentleman on an off the ice.

You know, I meant to write a whole paragraph on the penalty kill – but I got sidetracked transcribing Hamonic’s quote from Saturday! LOL

I really feel like the team will need some time to gel, so that the new parts and existing parts have some time to work together. Goaltending was a huge question mark for this team, I think we are seeing the reasoning behind the three goalie rotation. If DiPietro and Montoya are able to share the load and Nabakov gets some playing time, he will certainly help Garth Snow out later this season.

I like how the team hasn’t sat back, they protected their lead today and need to continue to do that throughout the year. There were way too many games last season that could’ve and should’ve been one – but weren’t!

Good, objective summary. I think our power play looked decent, and our PK was excellent – something that seems to be overlooked by many covering today’s game. If the Islanders looked tired, much of it had to do with running around killing penalties in the 1st! Still, I agree that in the later periods, the Isles were flat and a bit fatigued – they lacked that spark we were all hoping to see. That same spark we saw late last season – that or nothing to get a win attitude. We need to remember (and they do to!) that with this team, there’s no guarantees. Every “W” will be a hard fought battle and this team can never sit back. Granted, we have more positives here than we’ve had in a long while, but we still have a lot of work to do. Let’s go Islanders!

I read that quote and had to shake my head.

I took it as an honest mistake, it’s not the end of the world. I wouldn’t put it past him to address his mistake and clear the air. Either that or some ribbing from his teammates.

Mark, you’re a great guy and you truly deserve the honor, but neither Trots or Pat–great players though they were–ever served as NYI Captain.

There was one truly legendary NYI Captain who led the team from 1979 to 1987 when he retired, accumulating 4 straight Cups under his leadership. He played in your spot or–more accurately–you are playing in his–#1 D. Look up at the #5 in the rafters and remember.

As you see Gstat – theres a negative comment here as well.

I understand the opposition, I really do – but INACTION and political bickering is what got LI in the pickle we are in to begin with.

We do nothing, taxes go up, team leaves and building closes.

We vote YES, Islanders stay, taxes moderately go up, better acts and events come – and Lord Stanley returns home.

Oh, and more people will come to the Island for hockey – it’s a byproduct of a new building.

Right on, Michael. It kills me to see how this referendum is out of my hands, too, as I am an Islanders season ticket holder in New Jersey. I have to have faith in the citizens of Nassau County to save the team as we know it.

I do have faith, but the naysayers are in the woodwork and ready to come out. I retweeted a positive comment on the Monday vote and, surprisingly, I was met with opposition almost immediately.

For the Nassau County residents, it cannot be stressed enough how important each and every vote is on Monday. Do not take the vote for granted and assume this will pass.
